Refusing or avoiding deposits: There are upfront costs involved when it comes to aesthetics such as prescriptions which are solely to be used on that client, if they can’t respect that or question your policies then I wouldn’t not be booking them in.

Constant rescheduling of appointments last minute: the loss of earnings that this amounts to can be huge! Not only do we lose the income from the sale, we also aren’t able to offer those slots to others at such short notice so it’s a double whammy!

Not being cooperative: When a new client wants to make a new booking I will often ask for some images so I can get an idea of what’s achievable and give them an idea of a treatment plan and price, I also ask them to complete medical forms. Anyone who refuses these essential steps of record keeping and insurance 🚩 🚩 🚩

Ok so we often hear how the market is “over saturated” maybe there’s a little truth in that but it’s not an excuse as to why you can’t start a business and thrive with no experience.

I went from an office job to a hugely successful career in aesthetics and training with 0 clientele and am 12 years in!

My top tips to help speed up your success…

1. Get social - as time consuming as it is, social media is the first port of call for clients wanting to see your work. Use it not only as a portfolio but also as a way to connect and network with potential clients and other industry professionals.

2. Build trust - Show your face on your page as it helps people connect with your business on more than just a surface / transactional level.

3. Shout about your business - As daunting or cringe as it may seem, people aren’t mind readers! Think about your target audience and sell to them! There are clients all around you, friends, family, colleagues, gym buddies, school mums so tap into these communities and things will start happening.

4. Just keep plugging away - Sometimes it can feel hopeless posting what you think is great content and not seeing it do well but it’s all part of the process and has to be done.

5. Be realistic - This may just be the most important piece of the puzzle! Don’t compare your first year / month or week in business to someone’s year 5! Your skills are still developing and you need to pay your dues, there’s no fast track or cheat code (please stop listening to people who claim you can go from working in Tesco to making 20k in your first month of business it’s not real!)
